Phillies-Braves Preview (The Associated Press)

The Atlanta Braves pitchers have been leading their club's recent surge in the wild card race, and Julio Teheran has been one of their best lately. The right-hander will try to win four consecutive starts for the second time in his career and lead the Braves to their 12th win in 17 games Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta's staff has registered a 2.07 ERA in the past 16 games with its relievers giving up just four earned runs in the past 38 innings. He gave up a solo homer, two singles and two walks over 6 1-3 innings in a 3-2 road victory against the New York Mets on Wednesday.

Mets-Marlins Preview (The Associated Press)

The Miami Marlins are coming home after being punchless at the plate in the last five games of a dismal road trip. It's advantageous that Henderson Alvarez will be on the mound for them back in Miami but definitely not good news that Zack Wheeler and the New York Mets will be the opponents. Wheeler has been utterly dominant against the Marlins this season and the Mets have won five straight in this series entering Monday's opener of a three-game set. The Marlins totaled nine runs and batted .214 with 52 strikeouts in losing four of their last five.

Recker hits 3-run HR, Mets hold off Phillies 6-5 (The Associated Press)

Mets starter Dillon Gee called it the hottest game he's pitched in all year. Anthony Recker snapped a sixth-inning tie with a three-run homer in a rare start, and the Mets held off Philadelphia 6-5 Sunday to avoid dropping into last place. ''Anytime you get a chance to play, you just want to contribute,'' Recker said. ''We've got a few guys on the bench that haven't been seeing a lot of time, so when we get our chance we really want to be able to do our part.'' Wilmer Flores had three hits and made two sparkling defensive plays at shortstop in the final two innings to help New York hang on.

Wood, Braves blank Marlins (The SportsXchange)

Alex Wood finally found his way onto the right side of a 1-0 game. The Braves left-hander, who lost 1-0 decisions earlier this season against the Philadelphia Phillies and the Marlins, pitched eight scoreless innings and matched his career high with 12 strikeouts Sunday in Atlanta's 1-0 win over Miami. A second-inning homer by catcher Evan Gattis produced the game's only run. Wood (10-10) retired the last eight men he faced before turning the game over to closer Craig Kimbrel, who pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 41st save.

Reserves pace Mets’ victory (The SportsXchange)

For one day, at least, the New York Mets got the type of offensive production out of their reserves that has been lacking from their starters since the All-Star Break. Catcher Anthony Recker's three-run homer snapped a sixth-inning tie Sunday afternoon and lifted the Mets to a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. Eight of the Mets' 11 hits and five of their RBIs were collected by players who have either spent the season as backups in New York or have split time between the majors and minors. "(If) those guys you stick in there have a big game, it just makes a huge difference and it takes a lot of heat off the guys who (play) every day," Mets manager Terry Collins said.
