Nationals-Mets Preview (The Associated Press)

Matt Harvey has received generous run support during his return from Tommy John surgery but hasn't usually needed too much help when he's faced the Washington Nationals. The Nationals, though, have been locked in at the plate and will try to spoil Harvey's attempt to improve to 5-0 in a tantalizing pitching matchup with Max Scherzer on Friday night. While he's done his part with a 3.04 ERA, Harvey has gotten 26 runs from the Mets (15-8) in his four starts. He finished one out shy of his second career complete game in Saturday's 8-2 win against the New York Yankees, yielding two runs and striking out seven.

Strasburg settles down, Nats end Mets' perfect home record (The Associated Press)

Stephen Strasburg seemed out of sorts - with his pitches, his catcher and the home plate umpire. Strasburg overcame a rocky start and the Washington Nationals became the first visiting team to win at Citi Field this season, beating the New York Mets 8-2 on Thursday night. ''He composed himself, he settled in nicely,'' Nationals manager Matt Williams said. The Mets had opened 10-0 at home for a team record-tying 12-game streak over two seasons.

LEADING OFF: Scherzer-Harvey matchup, Lester tries again (The Associated Press)

Scherzer missed his previously scheduled start after jamming his right thumb while batting. Scherzer and Harvey were the starters in July 2013 for All-Star Game at Citi Field - they faced each other the next month, too, in Harvey's last outing before Tommy John surgery. Phillies-Marlins Preview (The Associated Press)

With a dazzling young core and some veteran leadership, the Miami Marlins' current hot spell is a realization of the success many envisioned heading into 2015. An ongoing influx of offense can help the Marlins further distance themselves from last place in the NL East, a spot now owned by the offensively challenged Philadelphia Phillies as they head to Miami on Friday night. Miami (10-12) has won seven of eight to rebound from a rough start to the season that included three losing streaks of three or more games. The Marlins have scored 5.5 runs per game over the hot stretch, up from 3.79 through April 21.

Yankees-Red Sox Preview (The Associated Press)

CC Sabathia isn't used to getting off to a horrendous start during an otherwise sensational career, and he won't ever be comfortable with getting booed at Yankee Stadium. Now the left-hander will try to regroup on the road as he tries to end the longest losing streak of his career Friday night when the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox renew their rivalry at Fenway Park. Sabathia (0-4, 5.96 ERA) has dropped his first four starts for the first time after allowing seven runs and nine hits - three home runs - in Saturday's 8-2 home loss to the New York Mets. As manager Joe Girardi went out to get him in the sixth inning, Yankees fans weren't shy about voicing their displeasure with the six-time All-Star.

Andrew McCutchen notches 1,000th hit as Pirates blow out the Cubs (Big League Stew)

Take a look around the league with Big League Stew's daily wrap up. We'll hit on all of the biggest moments from the day that you may have missed, while providing highlights, photos and interesting stats . It's impossible to measure the impact Andrew McCutchen has had on the Pittsburgh Pirates since debuting in 2009 with a single number. But if we were going to start somewhere, 1,000 doesn't sound too bad. That's 1,000, as in 1,000 career hits, a milestone McCutchen achieved in Wednesday's 8-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs . McCutchen, who's been mired in a season-long funk so far, entered the game with a .179 average on the season and 998 career hits. He started off 0 for 3 with a pair of strikeouts, but finally broke out in the sixth inning with a two-run triple over the head of center fielder Dexter Fowler. That extended Pittsburgh's lead to 5-1. Two innings later, McCutchen milestone came on a sharply hit grounder that Cubs' third baseman Kris Bryant impressively knocked down with a backhand dive, but McCutchen outran the throw. [MORE: Sights and sounds from MLB's historic fan-less game in Baltimore] Not surprising, there was a lot of excitement over McCutchen's in the Pirates' clubhouse following the game. Even less surprising, McCutchen wasn't among those in a celebratory mood. It's onward and upward for him, and hopefully for his Pirates in the NL Central.  "It just means I've been blessed enough to play long enough to get it," McCutchen said. "I've just had the opportunity to play every day. That's what it's been all about. I've had the opportunity to do it, played a lot of games and got a lot of at-bats, so I was able to do it." ''It's a good milestone,'' he added, ''but I don't want to stop there.'' The Pirates needed Wednesday's win to avoid being swept in Chicago. Gerrit Cole provided a lift on the hill, allowing one unearned run on three hits over six innings. He's 4-0 on the season. Korean rookie Jung Ho Kang added three hits, including an RBI single and double.  The Pirates head to St. Louis this weekend to face the first-place Cardinals. The Cubs, who saw their four-game winning streak snapped, will host the last-place Brewers.  RYAN BRAUN BREAKS OUT FOR BREWERS
