Los Angeles confronts the National League's most potent offense without the major leagues' best pitcher Friday night when the Dodgers begin a three-game series at home against the Colorado Rockies. Left-hander Clayton Kershaw, scheduled to start Friday, instead went on the disabled list with a herniated disk. Kershaw, who lost his last start Sunday in Pittsburgh, complained of back stiffness after the game.
A streak or two of celebration whipped cream was still stuck in Brandon Nimmo's hairline as he peeled off his baseball socks in the clubhouse Thursday night. Plenty of time to clean up, the Mets rookie figured. Yoenis Cespedes socked a colossal home run , Jeurys Familia pitched out of a huge jam in the ninth inning and Nimmo keyed a three-run rally in the seventh that sent New York past the Chicago Cubs 4-3 in their first meeting since last year's NL Championship Series.

You can see what happens when the Cubs and Mets meet again, right here on Yahoo Sports. The first two games of the series — Thursday night and Friday night — are the MLB Free Games of the Day.
Standout left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw was sent to Major League Baseball's disabled list Thursday by the Los Angeles Dodgers after receiving an epidural to relieve pain in his aching back. The Dodgers are 14-2 this season in games started by Kershaw, who returned from Milwaukee to Los Angeles on Wednesday for tests after complaining of pain and stiffness in his lower back over the past few days. The epidural means Kershaw would likely be idled for several days.
