Spring Training 2017: Nationals bolster bullpen with Joe Blanton (Big League Stew)

The Nationals finally picked up a reliever Tuesday. SIGN HIM UP: After looking for bullpen help all offseason, the Washington Nationals finally got their man. The 36-year-old Blanton posted a 2.48 ERA over 80 innings with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016. He’ll make $4 million in 2016, but could receive an additional million based on incentives.

''We just did like a rookie skit, a few of us guys,'' Giolito said Tuesday, ''and I was still nervous going into it, trying to remember my lines and things. The part Giolito wants is the role of major league ace, and the White Sox would love to see him grab the job as soon as possible.

Cubs will dominate regular season again, according to oddsmakers (Big League Stew)

In what has become the least surprising development since the Washington Nationals signed another Scott Boras client, the Chicago Cubs are once again expected to dominate the regular season. The Cubs are projected to win a league-high 95 1/2 games in 2017, according to Bovada.

David Wright shut down from throwing, might not be ready for Opening Day (Big League Stew)

David Wright has only played in 75 games the past two seasons. After just a few appearances in spring training games, Wright has been shut down from throwing due to a shoulder impingement. He’s been flown back to New York to be evaluated. Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson spoke about Wright’s shoulder issue on Tuesday and said that while there’s no structural damage, he’ll be doing zero throwing over the next few weeks.

Mets' Wright has shoulder injury, won't throw for 2 weeks (The Associated Press)

Mets captain David Wright has returned from spring training to New York, been diagnosed with impingement in his right shoulder and was told not to throw for two weeks. The team says the third baseman was examined Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery after feeling discomfort. The 34-year-old, a seven-time All-Star, has been limited to 75 regular-season games during the past two seasons.
