Winter Meetings: Day Two

Things are heating up in Orlando as we reach the midpoint of Winter Meetings week. The resounding excitement around Shohei Ohtani was dampened a bit on Tuesday night when reports came out that the Angels' freshly signed Japanese star has a first-degree elbow ligament sprain in his throwing arm. This isn't news to MLB teams, as the issue was openly divulged by Ohtani during the posting process, but until now it wasn't publicly known.

Orioles star Machado could move _ new position, or new team

Baltimore Orioles star Manny Machado could be on the move. "Everything else is — today — moot," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said of a Harvey deal. Pitching is always at a premium, and the Chicago Cubs completed two-year contracts for reliever Brandon Morrow and pitcher Drew Smyly, expected to miss next season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

What should the Mets do with their man of mystery, Matt Harvey?

Pity the New York Mets, again, they being run from the consciousness of a town that has little time or patience for subtleness. The last part is the problem, as the Mets are a team of mystery, and in the best scenario, the very best scenario, where doves coo in the morning sun and unicorns frolic in the gloaming, Harvey and Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler coo and frolic and the Mets are relevant. You know this scenario because the Mets have been selling it for a few years.

Sandy Alderson suggests Mets won’t trade Matt Harvey

Mets GM Sandy Alderson suggested on Tuesday that the team will not be trading RHP Matt Harvey, who has been the subject of rumors at the Winter Meetings. "All I'm weighing right now are the opinions of (manager) Mickey Callaway and (pitching coach) Dave Eiland," Alderson said. "And they don't want to lose him." Alderson's tune had been different on Monday when asked about Harvey. "We have high expectations for Matt this season," Alderson said. "But the bottom line is, we're here to talk to people. So we're talking." Former Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen -- now an assistant pitching coach for the Rangers -- has told "at least two teams" that it would be smart to take a gamble on Harvey, reported
